It’s taken nearly 20 years, but the exhilarating follow-up to Danny Boyle’s landmark 2002 chiller “28 Days Later,” is headed back into UK cinemas. Save the date for June 20th! Danny Boyle directed the movie, with Alex Garland writing the screenplay. This project is a momentous trip back to the apocalyptic world that was originally created over twenty years ago. This latest edition explores the frightful realities of a post-apocalyptic pandemic. It sets up an incredible planned trilogy to come!
Jamie and Isla’s isolated, colorful, uninfected home on Holy Island—or Lindisfarne—of the northeast coast of England. Their adopted, 12-year-old son, Spike is another dynamic force behind their passionate family life. Yet this breathtaking scenery is more than a juxtaposition to the terrifying literary world left in the wake of contagion and disorder. To begin with, the family has to deal with a new, often frightening reality. In the process, they need to fend off the Infected and navigate the perils of survival in a broken world.
Joining our lead trio are Jack O’Connell and Erin Kellyman. Kellyman is perhaps best known for her role in series Marvel’s “Falcon and The Winter Soldier”. In this harrowing tale of survival, Jenny plays her with astonishing depth and vulnerability. In addition, Ralph Fiennes portrays Dr. Kelson, a mysterious survivor whose intentions remain unclear, adding an intriguing layer to the plot.
The film’s release is only the first step though! Look out for the sequel, “The Bone Temple,” scheduled for release into multiplexes January 16, 2026. Directed by Nia DaCosta, this sequel is set to further the conversations and frights of this newly reimagined film genre.
This latest chapter actually goes back to those roots, but broadens out the story. It intends to thrill established followers of the first movie, while luring in fresh viewers. The combination of Boyle’s directorial vision and Garland’s sharp writing is expected to deliver an immersive cinematic experience that reflects contemporary fears of pandemics and societal breakdown.
