Disney's highly anticipated remake of "Snow White" premiered on March 10, 2025, with an unusual approach, foregoing the traditional red carpet fanfare. Directed by Marc Webb and featuring a screenplay by Erin Cressida Wilson, the film's budget saw a significant increase, reaching $269.4 million by the end of 2023, although current reports suggest it stands at $250 million. The film is set to hit theaters on March 21, 2025, with box office tracking predicting a 3-day start between $53 million and $63 million.
The film, produced by Marc Platt and executive produced by Callum McDougall, stars Rachel Zegler in the titular role of Snow White and features Gal Gadot. One of the unique aspects of this remake includes all-new original songs by acclaimed songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, along with an original score composed by Jeff Morrow. Martin Klebba, who voices Grumpy and advises on the portrayal of the "Dwarf" characters, commented on the unconventional premiere.
“It really isn’t going to be a red carpet,” said Martin Klebba.
“It’s going to be at the El Capitan [Theatre], which is cool. But it’s basically going to be a pre-party, watch the movie, and that’s it. There’s not going to be this whole hoopla of, ‘Disney’s first [frick]ing movie they ever made.’ Because of all this controversy, they’re afraid of the blowback from different people in society,” Klebba explained.
The decision to eschew a traditional press invitation for the premiere has sparked curiosity and speculation. While Disney is known for its grandiose film launches, this subdued event choice seems to reflect a strategic response to potential societal backlash. Despite these challenges, the film remains a significant release for Disney, promising fans a fresh take on the classic story with new music and performances.
Rachel Zegler's portrayal of Snow White is anticipated to bring a new dimension to the beloved character, while Gal Gadot's involvement adds star power to the production. The film's musical elements are expected to captivate audiences with Benj Pasek and Justin Paul's original compositions, complementing Jeff Morrow's score.
Financially, "Snow White" represents a considerable investment for Disney. The budget adjustments highlight the studio's commitment to delivering a high-quality cinematic experience. As the March 21 release date approaches, industry analysts are closely watching for box office performance, given the film's substantial budget and marketing strategy.
