Candiace Dillard Bassett Welcomes First Child Amidst Advocacy and Support for Former Costar

Candiace Dillard Bassett, a former star of the Real Housewives of Potomac, recently celebrated a personal milestone with the birth of her first child. She and her husband, Chris Bassett, welcomed their son, Jett Maxwell Lee, in October 2024. This marks a new chapter in the life of the reality TV alum, who has been a part of the Real Housewives of Potomac cast since its early seasons and left after season 8.

On Saturday, March 15, Candiace attended the 11th Annual Better Brothers Los Angeles Truth Awards, an event that honors the Black LGBTQ+ community and its allies. She was joined by fellow Bravo stars Cynthia Bailey, Tamar Braxton, Colman Domingo, and Lee Daniels. During this event, she spoke with PEOPLE about various topics, including her experience of motherhood and her continued support for the Black LGBTQ+ community.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the awards, Candiace shared insights into her life as a new mother and emphasized the importance of making responsible choices.

"We all know that drinking and driving is not right," she stated, underscoring the necessity of alternatives like taking an Uber or opting to sleep on a couch.

Candiace also reflected on her relationship with former costar Karen Huger, who faces time in prison. Despite the circumstances, Candiace expressed optimism about Karen's future.

"So Karen will obviously have time to think about what she has done," Candiace remarked. "But I'm excited for her to serve her time and come out stronger, which I know that she will."

Throughout her career, Candiace has been a vocal advocate for the Black LGBTQ+ community. Her participation in events like the Truth Awards highlights her commitment to supporting marginalized communities.
