Filming for the highly anticipated film “Avengers: Doomsday” is currently underway at the iconic X-Mansion, also known as the Xavier Institute, which serves as the base of operations for the X-Men. The Russo brothers, best known for their stunning work on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), are in charge of this new addition. It will land in theaters on May 1, 2026!
One of the new locations is the X-Mansion, a realistic set being built out for this shoot, and one of the most recognizable places in Marvel lore. This estate is home to Professor Charles Xavier, founder of the X-Men. He’s had a hand in their fight to achieve a peaceful coexistence between mutants and humans. The privilege to be filming at this historic location creates an atmosphere that is palpable with a warm sense of nostalgia mixed with current excitement. Recent casting announcements, including virtually all the original X-Men lineup, only increase that excitement.
Our previous cast announcement Walk on, Ross! Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden join the amazing lineup. These actors have previously played key roles in the X-Men cinematic universe, and their return has fans especially excited. Newcomers include actors such as Alan Cumming from “X2” and Kelsey Grammer from “The Last Stand” who are joining the ensemble. Channing Tatum, his fellow star from the Deadpool franchise, will be joining the cast.
Hugh Jackman, famous for his legendary role as Wolverine is confirmed to be there. Along with him are Halle Berry as Storm and Famke Janssen as Jean Grey. Even with all of that, there is still a great deal of mystery left to shroud their characters. Interestingly, the chairs on set only had the actors’ names on them, not whom they were playing. This has fueled rumors that they could be introducing new heroes or villains into the MCU.
Channing Tatum shot down those rumors quite forcefully during a recent interview with Extra.
“Personally, all I was guaranteed was a chair. They said that I have a chair, and I can at least watch the movie from the chair. You know, and it was just my name, it wasn’t exactly Gambit. So, I work in the world of just like, of binary yes or no’s, and I’ve only been guaranteed so far a chair to watch the movie in, so that’s where I’m at.” – Channing Tatum
This comment has only fueled speculation about the character dynamics in “Avengers: Doomsday.” Fans can’t wait to see how these returning actors will fit into a still-potentially new narrative landscape.
The Russo brothers, who have a successful track record with films such as “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers: Endgame,” expressed their excitement about this new project. They stated:
“Being able to create stories and explore characters within the Marvel Universe fulfilled a life-long dream of ours, and we discovered a powerful connection with audiences in each film that we made. We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with Kevin, Lou and the entire Marvel team to bring this epic adventure in storytelling to new and surprising places for both the fans and ourselves.” – The Russos
Production has started, but so far few exclusive images from the set have surfaced. The trailers have so far showcased volcanic craters indicative of a very fiery gaming narrative. Fans are left to speculate how these elements will fit into the broader narrative of “Avengers: Doomsday.”
Following its release in 2026, “Avengers: Doomsday” will pave the way for “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which is scheduled for May 7, 2027. With the interconnected storytelling that has become a hallmark of the MCU, the web of anticipation and excitement continues to grow for both films.
