Eric Dane Set to Film Euphoria Just Days After ALS Diagnosis

The award-winning actor known for his role as Cal Jacobs in the popular series Euphoria, totally opened up about his best-kept secret. Most importantly, he announced that he had been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s disease. This uncommon degenerative disease causes a gradual paralysis of all the body’s muscles and is currently fatal. Since opening up about his diagnosis to PEOPLE on April 10, Dane has been preparing to begin filming the third season of Euphoria. His return to set is just four days away, on Monday, April 14.

ALS is an extremely devastating disease, dramatically affecting the lives of individuals who are diagnosed with ALS. Patients only live for an average of three to five years after diagnosis, with some patients surviving for just a few months while others survive for decades. Even when faced with the debilitating effects of such an unpredictable illness, Dane is hopeful for the future of his career and personal life.

“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of ‘Euphoria’ next week,” he stated in his announcement. This sense of defiance is indicative of the artist’s commitment to his craft and his fans.

On the surface In Euphoria, Dane’s character, Cal Jacobs, has been through the ringer. In the gripping season 2 finale, Cal was arrested after his son Nate turned him in, marking a tense confrontation that highlighted his struggles as a father.
