As we first reported — and Birdman confirmed on Instagram — Toni Braxton and Birdman had a small, private wedding ceremony. Just weeks later, they have gone to divorce court. The duo were married on 8/8/24 in Mexico after a whirlwind romance that had Tiktok up in arms. Their union was unexpectedly brief.
Tamar and Birdman started dating in 2016, transitioning from friends to lovers. In a PEOPLE cover story in 2018, Braxton explained how they “never saw it coming” when their friendship turned romantic. “I never thought we would be dating or getting married,” she admitted. Their connection went even deeper as Braxton found an incredible network of support from Birdman while she continued to face the debilitating effects of lupus.
After two years of dating, the lovely couple shared some thrilling news. They made the announcement in a teaser for the upcoming season of Braxton’s flagship reality series, “Braxton Family Values,” which premiered in February 2018. Fans celebrated the announcement, with Braxton stating at the time, “I have an announcement to make — I’m engaged!”
Just as quickly as the surprise couple wed, they had called it quits just eight months later with Braxton filing for divorce in December 2024. The stated reason for the divorce was “irreconcilable differences.”
