Saturday Night Live Announces UK Spinoff Set for 2026

Famed comedy showcase and workshop Saturday Night Live (SNL) is spreading its cultural tentacles even further! A UK spinoff is scheduled to premiere in 2026. The new show certainly attempts to recapture the charm of the show’s original, somewhat bizarre format. It showcases British talent as evidenced by the all-British cast of stand-up comedians, musical guests and celebrity hosts. This pilot project is an important moment in SNL’s rich history, as the company just celebrated its 50th anniversary this year.

UK production will be overseen by Broadway Video and Universal Television Alternative Studio’s UK production team. The program will air live on Saturday nights from London, maintaining the same “live, fast-paced style that has made the show a cultural phenomenon,” according to Sky, the network set to broadcast the series alongside Now TV.

Though plans on the British adaptation started as far back as 2021, things have moved quickly since then. Lorne Michaels, the original creator and executive producer of SNL, was to lead the UK spinoff. …he wants to stay true to the spirit of this much-loved franchise while making it his own for a new generation.

Saturday Night Live’s recent 50th anniversary celebration included the SNL50: The Homecoming Concert, which featured a star-studded lineup. David Byrne, Lady Gaga, Devo and the surviving members of Nirvana revived the gala. Their deep commitment to the powerful legacy and impact of that show over five decades was evidenced by their participation.

With the UK spinoff on the horizon, fans can anticipate a fresh take on the iconic comedy format that has entertained millions. With local talent paired with the tried and true SNL format, this will surely be a thrilling new addition to the global television landscape.
