S.G. Goodman Unveils New Album Planting by the Signs and Releases Video for Lead Single

Today, S.G. goodness shared the first taste of her forthcoming album, Planting by the Signs. Look forward to the release on June 20th! This much-anticipated project comes on the heels of her 2022 album, Teeth Marks. She’ll be releasing it through her own imprint, Slough Water Records, in partnership with Thirty Tigers.

>The inspiration behind Planting by the Signs stems from deeply personal experiences, including the loss of Goodman’s beloved dog and a close mentor figure. These emotional events have shaped the themes of the album, which promises to explore the complexities of loss and healing through its lyrical content.

The album includes 11 tracks that capture Goodman’s unique Americana sound and poignant storytelling. Stand out tracks on the debut album include “Satellite,” “I Can See the Devil” and “Snapping Turtle.” Other highlights include “Michael Told Me,” “Solitaire,” “I’m in Love,” “Nature’s Child,” “Heat Lightning,” and the title track, “Planting by the Signs.”

Of the five tracks, “Fire Sign” immediately felt like the intended lead single. Goodman recently premiered an evocative video to accompany her song. It’s not only a true testament to her artistic vision, but a real knockout of an intro to her forthcoming full-length debut.

Plus, Planting by the Signs will feature surprise appearances by Grammy Award-winning artist Bonnie “Prince” Billy and astronomer Matthew Rowan. Bonnie “Prince” Billy makes a special appearance on the beautiful track Nature’s Child and Matthew Rowan joins in on Heaven Song for added texture. This sparkling collaboration adds to the album’s palette and counters its rigid production with emotional weight.

As Goodman herself describes her life path and evolution in her own words,

“The only person who can put my fire out is myself.” – S.G. Goodman

We’re all looking forward to the debut of Planting by the Signs. Her fans can expect an album that mixes intimate coming-of-age story with connective earworms! Solid themes and strong and intentional group work combine beautifully in this powerful release. It is shaping up to be an extraordinary career capstone in Goodman’s life.
