Olivia Munn Reflects on Wedding Day Joys and Challenges

Actress Olivia Munn opened up about her secret wedding to comedian John Mulaney. The pair got married during the Fourth of July weekend in 2024 at a friend’s house in New York. The couple went on to joyfully celebrate their union with immediate family and a small group of close friends. Munn’s former Newsroom co-star, Sam Waterston, was on hand to officiate the intimate and emotional gathering.

Munn lives with her two children in Boston. Her 3-year-old son Malcolm accompanied her in welcoming her daughter Méi to the family via surrogacy in September of 2024. Munn felt such profound joy on her wedding day. Right alongside that joy, she felt a deep twinge of sorrow. She shared with Mulaney and Ellis her hopes that Méi could have joined the wedding ceremony as well.

“And I was really sad, I was telling John, ‘Ahh, I wish that she was here because in the photos when she looks back on the day Mommy and Daddy got married, Malcolm will be there, but she won’t be there,’” – Olivia Munn

Malcolm’s performance as the ring bearer made quite the impression during the nuptials. The best part, in classic joke fashion, was his proclamation—that he had to go to the restroom.

“Yeah, a very sweaty, little 2-year-old in a tuxedo just went, ‘I’m pooping,’” – John Mulaney

Despite the unexpected antics of her son, Munn described her wedding day as emotional and highlighted Mulaney’s thoughtfulness in making her feel special throughout the process.

“It was very emotional. I know, he’s really thoughtful and sweet,” – Olivia Munn

Besides sharing and reflecting on the wedding, Munn shared some lovely sentiments about her daughter, Méi. She called her daughter a “great treasure” who brings her great joy, pointing out that Méi is always happy first thing in the morning.

“She wakes up happy every single time she wakes up,” – Olivia Munn

As you can see, Munn often posts cute pictures of Méi on social media. These portraits serve to illuminate the incredibly intimate relationship she has with each of her kids. Even though Méi wasn’t able to join for the wedding, Munn’s devotion to her family flooded the wedding day from start to finish.
