Bruce Springsteen Unveils “Blind Spot” from Upcoming Box Set of Lost Albums

Bruce Springsteen recently unveiled a thrilling, previously unheard diamond in the rough titled “Blind Spot.” This previously unreleased song will be included in his forthcoming box set, Tracks II. We had the chance to see that artist’s vault this month, which sent some fans into a frenzy with further details emerging. “Blind Spot” takes its place as the second and most recent release from this remarkable album. The box set is especially known for the inclusion of 74 tracks previously unheard by the public which cover a broad swath of Springsteen’s career.

“Blind Spot,” laid down in the wake of the Oscar-winning ringer title track “Streets of Philadelphia,” goes deep on the pain of doubt and betrayal in romantic relationships. He called it “a tale of two cities,” and indeed, the lyrics bear witness to these fraught historical relations. As such, he experienced a profound connection to the song’s themes. He explained, “That was just the theme that I zeroed in on at that time.”

It’s one of the earliest examples of the musical Hall of Famer’s chameleonic artistry, blending ingredients from West Coast hip-hop. He ventured into new territory by experimenting with drum samples, ultimately creating a bank of original “loops” with engineer Toby Scott. Yet, at its core, this adventurous approach showcases Springsteen’s willingness to change as an artist—a characteristic that’s underscored his entire career.

While Springsteen is the primary player on the track, he collaborated with several notable musicians, including Patti Scialfa, Soozie Tyrell, Lisa Lowell, and members of his 1992-1993 touring band. This singular vocal and instrumental unity brings an orchestral weight to the song and evokes the communal spirit that runs through so much of Springsteen’s work.

Though “Blind Spot” was recorded and mixed by the end of 1995, it remained unreleased. Springsteen decided to rejoin the E Street Band instead. The crew has chosen to re-record, refresh and release this track, Enjoy!!! Reed’s decision is the latest step in an ongoing effort to reconnect fans with his deep catalog. He reconsidered his decision and realized, “Maybe this is the moment to let loose and do something with the band.” He really hoped that fans of the band would remember and honor that wonderful aspect of his work life.

Since then, all of music fandom has been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Tracks II. It looks set to offer a fascinating insight into Springsteen’s creative process and his unshared sonic reality. The official release of “Blind Spot” should assure listeners they’re in for an exciting, alluring tune. All teasing aside, it provides remarkable insight into Springsteen’s artistic evolution.
