Millie Bobby Brown, the acclaimed actress known for her role as Eleven in the Netflix series “Stranger Things,” did not attend the highly anticipated premiere of “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” at New York’s Marquis Theatre on April 22. The 21-year-old star is still hard at work on the set of producing “Enola Holmes 3.” She has played Nomi since the show’s first season, which first aired in 2016.
The opening ceremony featured an impressive array of TOS cast members. Among them were Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Jamie Campbell Bower, Cara Buono, Matthew Modine, Brett Gelman, and Priah Ferguson. One major absence was Millie Bobby Brown. At least one of her new co-stars, Sadie Sink, had seen a preview performance of the play just the day before.
“Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin and written by Kate Trefry, serves as a prequel set in 1959 Hawkins, Indiana. Beyond the musical, the production serves as a prequel, exploring the childhoods of the high school-aged characters Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado and Bob Newby. This latest endeavor, having made a successful go-round from London’s West End to Broadway now in full swing and selling out tickets,
Kate Trefry has been one of the key creatives behind “Stranger Things” since the second season. She’s looking forward to the ambitious project and everything still to come! She explained that there were challenges in writing the prequel—making sure it lined up with everything already established in the historical narrative.
“It [had] to fit in with everything we’ve done before on the show, and it also had to tie in with [season 5],” – Kate Trefry
Brown’s absence from the premiere underscore her continued dedication to other projects. The actress recently starred in the film Enola Holmes and its sequel Enola Holmes 2, in which she plays Sherlock Holmes’ younger sister. The highly-anticipated third installment is promising to bring back a cast of familiar friends. Looking forward to Ivan Cavill as Sherlock and Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes!
Just like “Stranger Things,” legions of fans can’t wait for its fifth and final season and we’re almost certain that season will arrive in 2025, if not beyond. With Brown focusing on her film commitments, her fans remain hopeful for her return to the stage and screen in future projects.
