Firaxis, the development team behind the popular strategy game Civilization VII, announced a significant update on the official Civ website. This revision, labeled patch 1.2.0, is the fourth major change in less than two months. The patch isn’t released yet for Nintendo Switch players. The team at Firaxis is adamant that the additional time has been absolutely necessary to make sure everything works just right on this new platform.
The development team is not only focused on current gameplay but is laying the groundwork for a future Nintendo Switch 2 release. Finally, this strategic strategy means providing support for cross-platform downloadable content (DLC) ownership, improving the experience for gamers who jump between platforms. Firaxis stated, “This extra time allows us to make sure everything will be working as intended for existing Nintendo Switch players, while laying the groundwork for an upgrade path for the future Nintendo Switch 2 release and support for cross-platform DLC ownership.”
The update aims to bring the game closer to a tipping point for players who may still be undecided about diving into Civilization VII. That’s exactly in line with the blueprint we released earlier this year. That roadmap includes all sorts of neat features on the immediate horizon like hotseat multiplayer, auto-explore, modding tools, UI improvements and more.
Gameplay improvements and bug fixes Beyond these shiny new features, patch 1.2.0 brings a whole host of gameplay improvements and bug fixes. The new patch reintroduces Multiplayer Teams! It includes a new workflow for food and growth scaling, and heavy updates to every resource. Firaxis detailed some of these enhancements: “making Dyes more potent for Happiness, turning Fish into a Bonus Resource, and introducing Tin as a new Factory Resource that improves your Growth Rate.”
Players can look forward to a number of quality-of-life improvements including previously reported UI problems fixed. For example, “The health bar of healthy Units no longer turns red in the Unit Panel after viewing a damaged Unit of the same type during gameplay.” Additionally, it has been reported that “the Civilopedia page no longer overlaps with the Religion Belief selection menu,” improving overall navigation within the game.
Assuming Firaxis is actively developing Civilization VII now, of course. What’s next They are now focused on ensuring a seamless experience for players as well as a more enjoyable and playable experience for the future. The ongoing updates reflect their commitment to enhancing gameplay while preparing for upcoming technological advancements in console gaming.
