Marvel’s First Family Returns in The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Marvel Studios is poised to reintroduce its beloved superhero team in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, a film set in a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world. The film is scheduled to premiere on July 25, 2025. It hopes to reimagine Marvel’s First Family for a new generation while being mindful of the mistakes of previous adaptations.

Family Camp features a truly talented cast. Casting Reed Richards – aka Mister Fantastic – as Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman. Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm aka The Thing. This new reboot tries to focus on the core characteristics of these legendary characters. Yet they have historically been cornerstones of the Marvel universe.

Unfortunately, the story forces the Fantastic Four into their greatest trial ever. Stakes are high, pulsing throughout the MCU at large. Julia Garner has been cast and is playing Shalla-Bal. The Narrative of Ralph Ineson as the Herald of Galactus, the Silver Surfer. Currently, there are rumors that Doctor Doom would appear in the film. Robert Downey Jr. will play his character and that’s gotten fans really excited!

The creative team behind The Fantastic Four: First Steps includes director Matt Shakman, who collaborated with screenwriters Josh Friedman and Cam Squires. Writer Eric Pearson would go on to write the final polish of the screenplay. Shakman’s acclaimed prior work makes him the perfect choice to tackle this huge and potentially awesome undertaking.

In a bid to deepen the story, the film’s promo art unveils the iconic Baxter Building, a cornerstone of the Fantastic Four’s headquarters. The design informs the retro-futuristic aesthetic that will inform everything throughout the movie. Garner expressed her enthusiasm for the visual elements, stating:

“Aesthetically, it looks incredible, and I’m just really excited to see what Matt Shakman and Marvel are going to do with that.” – Julia Garner

Additionally, she spoke about her role as Silver Surfer, noting her initial unfamiliarity with Shalla-Bal but emphasizing her excitement for portraying a different version of the character:

“I did not know that there was Shalla-Bal, for example, another form of a Silver Surfer that’s not like what you think of the Silver Surfer.” – Julia Garner

The production has just added Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne in unknown roles. This foreshadows amazing plot twists and turns that you will not want to miss!

Galactus, the ravenous space god, is a serious threat. It won’t be easy as you’ll soon read, they’re about to be challenged as never before. Garner highlighted her preparation for the role, mentioning her research into surfing culture to embody Silver Surfer more authentically:

“I am actually afraid of the ocean. So no, but I can act. I have some friends that know how to surf, and they showed me some moves before I went out to London to just kind of get the body position of it all.” – Julia Garner

As The Fantastic Four: First Steps gears up for its theatrical debut, fans are eager to see how this iteration will differ from previous attempts made in 2005, 2007, and 2015. Previous movies didn’t quite know how to nail down Marvel’s First Family. This new venture now has the opportunity to succeed where they have previously failed.
