The hit Star Wars franchise show Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson as the titular character, has enchanted fans. Its unique combination of action and nostalgia has audiences hooked. The new limited series stars the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano. Set during the aftermath of the Empire’s collapse, she unravels a new menace to an all too ESA galaxy. The first season is available to stream exclusively on Disney+. The Witcher fans are still anxiously awaiting confirmation of a second season, which is already scheduled to begin production later this year.
Ahsoka features a truly amazing cast. Natasha Liu Bordizzo steals scenes as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead imbues Hera Syndulla with maternal wisdom and battle prowess, and Diana Lee Inosanto is hypnotic as Morgan Elsbeth. The late Ray Stevenson brought Baylan Skoll’s story to life, giving complexity and nuance to the larger story before his untimely death. Other notable cast members include David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger.
The series will include an amazing roster of directors. Among them are all-star directors Dave Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel and Rick Famuyiwa. And Kevin Kiner’s musical composition apparently works even harder to reinforce the emotional tone of the show.
One of the biggest revelations to come out of this series is Ivanna Sakhno, the young actress who portrays Shin Hati. Her character will experience a drastic shift in the new season. According to insights from the book Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy, “Shin teams with roving bandits on Peridea and resumes her hunt for Sabine and Ezra. Without Baylan to temper it, Shin’s impulsiveness could lead to challenging scenarios on the far-flung planet where she is stranded.” To me, this line emphasizes the conflict and character development possibilities in Shin Hati’s arc.
The first season has received critical acclaim from all corners for its imaginative plotting and richly complex character development. High praise indeed, especially considering that Star Wars usually plays it safe. As Ahsoka Tano continues her search for truth and justice, fans will be treated to both beloved characters and adversaries that are bigger and badder than ever.
With the creative team largely responsible for Ahsoka looking to capitalize on that momentum as the series grows into its second season, the stakes have never been higher. Fans are hopeful that the upcoming episodes will explore intriguing plotlines while honoring the legacy of both new and established characters.
