Anticipated Release of The Witcher 4 Sparks Excitement and Speculation

CD Projekt revealed The Witcher 4 informally last October. This long-awaited sequel is the next step in their ambitious plan for new releases and other projects based in the world of their megahit Witcher 3. Fans of the series have been hoping for this follow-up ever since. Anticipation is wild for the new RPG, which is set to continue the thrilling Witcher saga, begun in the previous games released between 2007 and 2015. With the game having been officially thrust into full production as of March 2024, that indicates major steps toward the game’s eventual launch.

The Witcher 4 announcement trailer from the Game Awards in December 2024. The teaser introduced fans to fan-favorite character Ciri, and the internet collectively lost their minds. That trailer absolutely rocked the world, but alas, CD Projekt wasn’t ready to release a firm launch date. Without clear updates, fans can only huddle under the shading of speculative timelines.

"Even though we do not plan to release The Witcher 4 by the end of 2026, we are still driven by this financial goal," stated a representative from CD Projekt.

According to CD Projekt’s most recent projections, fans won’t be playing The Witcher 4 until 2027 at the earliest. However, there is an understanding that this date could shift to 2028, as the developers prioritize avoiding crunch and overworking their team. CD Projekt’s continuing pledge to provide a healthy work environment further reiterates their commitment to quality and the ethical development of their products.

Witcher 4 may be able to drive out early RPG success on the new generation of consoles. This new avenue of gameplay discovery makes the game all the more exciting. Speculation suggests that the game will be a cross-generation release, available on both existing and future platforms, including the rumored PS6. This latter approach would guarantee an incredibly expansive audience, who would all have the opportunity to explore the game’s uniquely immersive world.
