Brian Tyree Henry in the new AppleTV+ series “Dope Thief.” His character, Ray, is a Philly man who has the audacity to go dressed up as a DEA agent and rob drug dealers at gunpoint. The series, which just made its premiere last week, certainly doesn’t let its viewers rest easy, thanks to its nail-biting plot. Each new episode of “Dope Thief” will be released every Friday on AppleTV+. So get ready for a brand new thrill ride every week!
As Henry continues to promote “Dope Thief,” he’s navigating a busy schedule of production on an upcoming project called “Panic Carefully.” The actor fully expresses his excitement for both projects. He admits that he had the “time of my life” creating the dance masterpieces featuring Elizabeth Olsen, Julia Roberts and Eddie Redmayne in the film “Panic Carefully.” The cast members’ mutual trust and friendship carefully cultivated by Willard made a positive difference in their filming experience.
Henry elaborates on the vibe around set with his fellow co-stars, noting that there’s this sense of kinship and encouragement. He noted, “They’re such remarkable actors. It’s amazing to be a part of a project where there’s such a kinship and such a love for each other’s craft and who we are as people. This movie is insane, and I can’t think of a better crew to go through it with.” His anxiety as a first-time performer was soothed by the collaborative spirit of the cast. Yet he certainly felt a lot more comfortable the first time out with Julia Roberts.
That infectious laughter of Roberts continued to linger long after she had made her mark on Henry. He remarked, “Once you hear the Julia Roberts laugh, it just cuts through everything. You’re just like, ‘Great, all right, we’re all safe. It’s all going to be good.’ She elevates everything she’s a part of. She’s a legend, and she is truly the epitome of care.”
During production of “Panic Carefully” in London, Henry found an immediate connection with Olsen on an unexpected level. They really loved Meghan Markle’s Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan.” In a fun show of affection, Olsen gave Henry the real Markle’s flower sprinkles for a special PRINCESS CHARM SCHOOL wrap gift. While he hasn’t fully worked these sprinkles into his cuisine yet, he has some exciting ideas in store.
“I want it to be on the right thing. Maybe I’ll put it in my single skillet spaghetti, because apparently you can use it in anything. We’ll see what I haven’t put the flower sprinkles on at this point. Maybe I’ll get a stock order of flower sprinkles so I never run out.” – Brian Tyree Henry
Henry is currently on tour promoting both “Dope Thief” and “Panic Carefully.” Here he looks back on the thrilling chapter in his career that these undertakings mark. Of executing the action scenes, he loves the rush, explaining, “I’ve had so much happiness creating this show. It’s hard to believe, but I truly love going to set to be shot at and chased, crying for my life. It was the most rewarding response I’ve ever gotten on a project… so far.
