Buscabulla, the celebrated music-making pair, are some of TPC’s favorites from the very first go ‘round. Named Se Amaba Así, it’s scheduled to release on June 13. The album come out via Domino, making it an impressive follow-up to their debut, Regresa. Raquel Berrios and Luis del Valle, the creative force behind Buscabulla, continue to explore themes of love and identity in their latest project.
The new album features eleven tracks, including the lead single, “El Camino.” Other incredible cuts on the tracklist include “Divino Tesoro,” “Miraverahí,” “Empuje,” and “Mortal.” Each track brings a special mix of the traditional with the today — taking audiences inside an arrangement that’s a vibrant, fresh new look at falling in love.
The band’s music is anchored in Latin and tropical sounds, updated for the present. Se Amaba Así is set to be a cathartic, self-reflective experience that explores the nuance of romantic relationships with depth and vulnerability. The duo has characterized the new album as a wrestling match between archaic and contemporary ideas of love.
Berrios added, “We made an ambitious decision to really focus inward. We wanted to dive deep into our relationship as a couple and really unpack the nuances of romantic relationships in general. Tugging at the ropes between old school versus reggaeton and bad bunny-tinged definitions of love, Se Amaba Así is a cathartic, meditative development of tracks inspired by retro Latin and tropical rhythms filtered through an updated perspective.
The lead single, “El Camino,” opens things up as this really dramatic, almost disco-ish guitar song. Above all, it bravely digs into the hard realities of being at a relationship’s crossroads. Berrios described “El Camino” as this dramatic, disco guitar track. It’s a portrait of all-too-familiar place of a couple finding themselves at a crossroads in their relationship, adrift in stormy, unknown waters of existence.
With their forthcoming album, Buscabulla has hinted at a 2025 summer tour, an announcement that has sent fans buzzing with anticipation. The pair have collaborated to much fanfare in the past. The standout track might be included “Eclipse de Amor” with Noia, which received inclusion in NPR’s “The 100 Best Songs of 2023.”
