Canneseries 2025 Set to Showcase Exciting Premieres and Industry Heavyweights

Canneseries is preparing its eighth edition, which will be held from April 24 to 29, 2025. It’s the first year that the festival will take place entirely on its own, following the death of the erstwhile parallel MIP-TV market. Canneseries promises to be the must-attend event for all television and film industry creatives, executives and distributors. From there, it includes the international premiere of JJ Abrams’ most long-awaited series “Duster” for Max.

Among the standout titles set to screen are the world premieres of AMC’s “The Walking Dead: Dead City” and Max’s French-language crime thriller “Malditos.” Its selection of “Malditos” is especially significant since the show is one of just eight series picked to compete in the international competition. Other entries in this competitive lineup feature Scandinavian series like “Reykjavik Fusion,” reflecting the diverse storytelling on display this year.

Industry Heavyweights in Attendance

Canneseries has drawn some of the biggest names in the industry to take part in an expanded industry program. Eric Rochant, the visionary behind the praised series “The Bureau” ranks with them. Beau Willimon, best known for his work on “Severance” and “House of Cards” shines in this stellar ensemble. UK producer Jane Tranter of Bad Wolf will be in attendance, making her the third Emmy/BAFTA/Tony-winning/nominee expert to contribute to the festival.

Artistic director Albin Lewi reinforced how critical these industry heavyweights are by saying,

“They are witnesses of the audiovisual landscape as it was before, but are all still active today.”

This diverse group of professionals will contribute to discussions and events designed to foster collaboration and innovation in the industry.

A New Vision for Canneseries

Production Partner Canneseries hopes to foster an exclusive environment that pairs nicely with other audiovisual markets and festivals. In explaining his vision for the event, Lewi made the following statement.

“We are trying to create a convivial, practical, upscale event that is complementary to other audiovisual markets and festivals.”

By prioritizing diversity and collective action, the festival aims to amplify the perspectives of veteran and new creators alike flourishing in today’s television landscape.

Plus, Lewi took to task the new world of content creation at a volatile time for Tinseltown. He noted,

“Non-English-language productions have a role to play as Hollywood struggles, which is a source of anxiety for the entire industry but also a moment of opportunity.”

This point of view reflects the soul of the festival, extending its promises to elevate meaningful narratives that connect with international audiences.

Celebrating Talent and Recognition

Canneseries will further acknowledge emerging talent from within the industry as well. Notably, “Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan will receive the festival’s new artistic commitment prize and conduct a masterclass at the festival. This achievement is a testament to the festival’s commitment to celebrating creative excellence and equipping festival goers with informative, insightful learning opportunities.

Actor Norman Reedus will head the Canneseries main competition jury. He is perhaps most recognizable for his leading role in “The Walking Dead.” Actors Louise Bourgoin, Lola Duenas and Cesar Domboy will accompany him. Their expertise will assist the selection process in determining this year’s award winners from a record setting field.
