On Tuesday, March 4, NHL star Evander Kane, of the Edmonton Oilers, celebrated the birth of his fourth child. On Friday, April 4, the 33-year-old athlete and his fiancée, Mara Teigen, welcomed their first child, a newborn daughter. They decided to call her Penelope Monroe Kane. This new addition will be their third child together, joining their two sons, Hendrix and Iverson.
Kane’s family has since expanded to include Kensington, his four-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. Hendrix is only 22 months, Iverson is only 2 years old. Now that Penelope has joined their family, both Kane and Teigen agree that they’re definitely done!
Teigen wrote about the shift in family dynamic on Instagram, sharing that she had always known they needed one more child. Though Kane had been hesitant at first, the decision of the two of them to have a daughter was made.
Truthfully, I had misgivings about the prospect. Though I had not felt lacking, after the birth of my youngest son, Hendrix, I felt in my heart that we needed one more. And I knew it should be a girl and Evander was like, ‘Hell no, Teigen shared.
Once Penelope was born, the pair began to face an uphill battle. They accompanied her to the neonatal intensive care unit. Despite that, Teigen said the energy in the household was still off the charts.
The kids were beyond excited. They’re all still unable to stop talking about her, and it’s the most adorable,” she said.
Teigen further explained their very firstborn’s Kensington puppy mama vibe. “And our oldest, Kensington, is beyond big sister sweet, just wants to protect her,” she added.
Evander Kane wasn’t surprised at the excitement shown by his younger kids for their new sister. Now, the family has settled entirely into their new life with Penelope. Simultaneously, they are focused on deepening the connection between their children.
