Frankie Cosmos Unveils New Album Different Talking Set for June Release

Frankie Cosmos have officially announced the release of their sixth studio album, Different Talking. She’s planning to release another album, her Sub Pop debut, on June 26. This release is a huge accomplishment for the band as it is the first time that they have orchestrated and created their material entirely on their own, without a producer’s touch.

Frankie Cosmos is led by lead singer and primary songwriter Greta Kline. Along the way, she collaborates with her talented bandmates Bailey and Katie Von Schleicher, and percussionist Hugo Stanley. The collective’s debut LP Inner World Peace dropped in 2022, immediately raising the bar for their new project, which is finally here. Different Talking comprises 17 tracks, showcasing the band’s signature sound while exploring new creative avenues.

Ranging from anthemic ballads to grooving hip-hop–inflected pop tracks, Different Talking has something for everyone. It features songs such as “Pressed Flower,” “One of Each,” “Against the Grain,” and “Bitch Heart.” Other standouts like “Porcelain,” “Vanity” and “You Become” add the groove, while “Life Back” finds comfort in nostalgia. The full list serves to further highlight Frankie Cosmos’ innovation and depth, both as a band and in their music.

The album’s lead single, “Vanity,” serves as the song’s introduction and features a powerful music video directed by Kline herself. She worked with bandmate Alex Bailey to produce a visual that truthfully portrays the fun and silly vibes of the song. In the video, viewers see the band members engaging in lighthearted antics, reflecting the carefree spirit that characterizes much of their work.

Kline shared the story that prompted “Vanity.” In fact, she began composing it during a six-and-a-half-mile commute between Tompkins Square Park and Sunset Park.

“I started writing it one evening while I walked, speaking directly to the universe and pleading to be considered by it. It feels like it encompasses this push and pull between adult and kid, government and governed, planet and blade of grass.” – Greta Kline

The production process was an exciting part of the album’s story too, as Kline shared how much she enjoyed the collaborative effort of the project. Katie Von Schleicher spoke to the artistic freedom they had in this process.

“We’d go to any length to get Greta’s songs right, and she’s generous with songs, so we have a lot of freedom to arrange them,” – Katie Von Schleicher
