General Motors (GM) has initiated a recall of over 90,000 vehicles following the discovery of a transmission control valve issue. The defect has the potential to cause the tires to lock up momentarily, posing a safety risk. The affected models include the 2020-21 Cadillac CT4, 2020-21 Cadillac CT5, 2019-20 Cadillac CT6, and the 2020-22 Chevrolet Camaro, all equipped with 10-speed transmissions. The problem was identified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which reported that only about 1% of the 90,081 vehicles are estimated to be affected.
The NHTSA has received 115 reports of lock-ups, with one incident resulting in an accident. A notable case occurred in September when a driver of a 2021 Cadillac CT5 experienced the front tires locking up. According to reports, these lock-ups typically lasted less than 150 milliseconds.
"In rare cases, the wheels may experience a momentary lock up," stated the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
GM's Safety Field Action Decision Authority made the decision to conduct a safety recall on February 27. This proactive measure aims to address the potential hazards associated with the transmission defect and ensure the safety of affected vehicle owners.
