Meanwhile, James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy has finally come together with a truly exciting cast. Rachel Brosnahan (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) will star as Lois Lane, while David Corenswet (The Politician) is the new Man of Steel. The movie just wrapped production a few days ago. It introduces a dynamic new team of superheroes that will help shape the destiny of this bold new DC universe.
Nicholas Hoult takes on the role of Lex Luthor, while Sara Sampaio portrays Lex’s assistant and love interest, Eve Teschmacher. Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell will play “Ma” and “Pa” Kent, reinforcing the fictional mythology of Superman’s childhood. Gunn’s vision for Superman is to combine big action and big humor with big heart. This perspective is the perfect way to honor the ingrained, nostalgic character.
Edwards’ own daughter will appear in the film as Milly Alcock makes her debut as Supergirl! She’s going to lead her own standalone film, Woman of Tomorrow. The superhero ensemble includes Hawkgirl, played by Isabela Merced. It stars Guy Gardner, played by Nathan Fillion, and Mr. Terrific, played by Edi Gathegi. We do know that the DC Comics shapeshifter Metamorpho — played by Anthony Carrigan — will likely be a member of this new cadre of heroes.
The new superhero team will have Superman’s full support and moral backing. They are concerned that he will not have the experience he needs to face challenges ahead. This new tension makes the world feel more lived-in as they both try to find their place in the story.
Gunn expressed appreciation for the cast and crew who brought the original project to life.… He described the process of bringing Superman to life as an experience filled with hilarity, heart, and artistic expression.
“God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life. I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own.” – James Gunn
Production is officially complete! Gunn somewhat fittingly celebrated the moment on social media, posting, “And that’s a wrap. This achievement reflects an important breakthrough in the casting and production pipeline. It was evident to him and everyone else on set that the cast and crew were creating something special.
“Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor. The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we’ve shared together on set – and for that I am forever grateful.” – James Gunn
Though the film certainly explores Superman’s character arc, much of the story hinges on the need for heroes to work together. Superman gets some powerful allies as a new superhero team takes center stage in this thrilling arc. Together they’ll traverse themes of mentorship and camaraderie in a bleak, mysterious landscape.
