Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. Return in New Sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer

The classic horror franchise I Know What You Did Last Summer returns with a killer twist. A sequel is coming soon, and it’s shaping up to be an incredible follow-up, especially for fans of the original trilogy! Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the new film will see the return of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. in their beloved roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson. The script, written by Leah McKendrick, is an adaptation of an original sequel concept that was jointly created by Robinson and McKendrick.

The narrative centers around five friends who unwittingly cause a fatal car accident and choose to cover it up, leading them to enter a pact to keep the secret buried. The film handwaves completely over the last two sequels, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. Rather, it adopts a new but deeply resonant story that returns them to their origins.

She told me, “You just don’t understand…I tried over and over and she’s dead.” This related comment only serves to further illustrate her difficulty in integrating Gellar’s character into the fresh new story arc.

She elaborated further on her discussions with Gellar about her character’s potential return:
