Jenny Hval has officially announced a long-awaited and very-much-anticipated, solo North American tour to support her forthcoming album, Iris Silver Mist. The tour will be in celebration of the album’s May 2 release on 4AD. This long-awaited debut project includes her popular lead single, “To Be a Rose.” The track has been making waves already, and it’s accompanied by an amazing music video directed by Jenny Berger Myhre.
>The launch of the new album, Iris Silver Mist, marks a continuation from Hval’s 2022 album, Classic Objects. Ahead of its release, Hval shared just how crucial live performance weighs into the equation. The tracks were formed and rehearsed in live settings throughout 2024, allowing her to explore the physical and live elements of music before recording. This directorial approach is one manifestation of Hval’s desire to cultivate an immersive experience for her listeners.
Beyond “To Be a Rose,” Hval has shared one more video from the album, this time centered on herself and collaborator Orfee Schuijt. This video accompanies the song “The Artist Is Absent,” which is available in two versions: a studio rendition and an extended mix titled “89 Seconds Rewrite.” The elegant visual storytelling featured in both videos really does a great job of showcasing Hval’s artistic vision and her collaborative work alongside Schuijt.
Austin’s music critic Harry Tafoya had this to say about “To Be a Rose.” Read his thoughts on its lyrical richness and musical construction. Personal emotional connection is how Hval has made the kind of avant-garde pop music that has come to characterize her career. This single gorgeous expands on safe that tradition.
Highlights of Hval’s extensive North American tour include dynamic shows in New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Toronto. Looking forward to seeing you in LA, SF, PDX, CHI, TOR, and BK! Internationally, she’ll be playing in Madrid, London, Brussels, Berlin, Amsterdam, Oslo and Paris. This extensive tour aims to bring her new music to a wide audience, showcasing her unique sound and artistic evolution.
