Jonathan Groff marked his 40th birthday on March 26 with a delightful surprise party, orchestrated by his best friend, Lea Michele. The joyful celebration brought together many of his best friends—none more so than actor Daniel Radcliffe. Collectively, they made it all the more special for Broadway’s latest superstar.
Groff has been busy rehearsing for his upcoming role in “Just In Time,” where he portrays the legendary singer Bobby Darin. With the expectation for an official opening on April 23, tickets are now on sale to what should be grateful audiences. Reflecting on his birthday, Groff shared that he spent the day in the theater, stating, “I went for a 12:30 p.m. to midnight rehearsal for this show.”
It’s obvious in every moment that he is utterly committed to his work. Groff considers spending a few hours in the theater to be a rare privilege. He expressed his joy about this experience, saying, “That is my dream. Being in a theater for 12 hours really is the ultimate birthday present for me. So I was happy to be there.”
The surprise party made Groff’s packed day that much more rewarding. As he described it, the memory of walking through that celebration still stood out. To my surprise, seven of my friends were all there to surprise me with an amazing little birthday breakfast,” he said. This incredibly sweet gesture from Michele really brought home how close these two friends were.
Michele further celebrated the milestone with a wonderful happy birthday post on social media. She shared her love for Groff, writing, “I love you to the moon and back JG.❤️ .
Inspired by the powerful sounds of the 1950s and 1960s, “Just In Time” full performance is destined to take audiences on a creative journey proving Groff’s artistry through an exciting energetic performance. He stressed that the production will explore multiple forms and styles. The intention here is to try to bottle the live magic that Bobby Darin brought to his performances.
