Kali Uchis has released her new single titled “ILYSMIH,” which serves as the second track from her highly anticipated album, Sincerely, set to debut on May 9. Though only her third release as a leader, this album represents an important departure point in Vega’s still-budding career. It’s her maiden album with major player Capitol Records—and her third studio album she’s released in a whirlwind three years.
The artist’s most recent releases include “Orquídeas” in 2024, and “Red Moon in Venus” in 2023. Both albums met with critical success. Pitchfork named Orquídeas one of “The 50 Best Albums of 2024.” This award is another feather in Uchis’ cap as she continues to create a name for herself in the music world.
“IYSMIH” was co-produced by Dylan Wiggins and Josh Crocker and tells a story rooted in Uchis’ personal experiences. Further, it’s said to be one of the very first songs she wrote after giving birth to her son. Plus, the lead single, released last month, is a stunning combination of emotional depth and artistic growth.
The clocking track total, 14, allows a stellar ILYSMIH to lead in and out, both encircling the cathartic farewell Orquídeas. This doubling back and connection between her projects demonstrate Uchis’ continuing narrative arc as an artist.
“‘ILYSMIH’ is me sharing a piece of my heart with the world. Living a life that is rich in love and inner peace hasn’t come easy. I hope this song will find anyone who needs it.” – Kali Uchis
