Well King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, we’re here to tell you, today’s your lucky day! They’re already preparing the follow-up, a deeply collaborative orchestral album, Phantom Island, scheduled for release June 13, 2024. The band recorded the record in between the sessions for their new studio album, Flight B741. This is a testament to their creativity as composers, fusing classical composition with their iconic approach to rock and roll.
Phantom Island was made in conjunction with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, making it the most ambitious project yet for the deeply influential Aussie collective. This arch orchestral endeavor showcases their comfort with stepping outside their established box. This time, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard will be releasing the album through their own label, (P)Doom Records. This unexpected move reinforces their deep commitment to artistic freedom.
As a compliment to the album release, the band will head on a U.S. tour shortly after Phantom Island’s release. This is much more than a typical tour, we promise! Conductor Sarah Hicks will direct a local, city-specific orchestra at each stop. Concert-goers can expect a blend of orchestral performance and stripped-down rock’n’roll shows on select dates, providing a diverse musical experience.
Releasing the title track from Phantom Island a little earlier this year created some fantastic buzz. Fans are excited to say the least! After this very first NFT release, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard has opened up their second NFT single drop with “Deadstick.” Director Guy Tyzack produced and edited the striking music video that accompanies “Deadstick.” This video brings a colorful and lively visual aspect to the band’s newest work.
Fans are ready for the first album to drop. They’re looking forward to the new joint tour, which is sure to be an amazing combination of orchestral and rock sounds. Their original collaboration with the Los Angeles Philharmonic further deepens the content of the album. It’s produced some of the most engaging and exciting concerts and shows.
