With Coachella arguably taking the world’s attention right now, thanks to its talent-filled lineup, running from April 18th to April 20th. Among the headliners this year were some of the biggest names in music including Green Day, Post Malone, and Travis Scott. Lady Gaga turned heads the first weekend of the festival. Her electrifying performance that night… wow, anyone lucky enough to experience it was completely mesmerized.
After a six year absence, Lady Gaga made her triumphant return to Coachella. Back then, she filled in last minute for Beyoncé, who was then pregnant with twins. During her nearly two-hour set, Gaga showcased her vocal prowess and stage presence, despite encountering a technical mishap that could have derailed her performance.
Only moments into launching into “Abracadabra,” the second song of her 10-minute long set, Gaga’s microphone began to malfunction. Undeterred, she was able to pivot on the spot, swapping in a handheld mic for her planned headset version. With the mic in one hand and a rainbow-painted cane in the other, full of grace and vitality, she was a magnetic presence with an arresting vigor that never flagged.
At one point on her artRave tour, while sitting in front of a piano onstage, Gaga spoke to her audience about the mic thing.
“I’m sorry my mic was broken for a second. At least you know I sing live,” – Lady Gaga
Her poise in dealing with a major onstage malfunction earned her a standing ovation from attendees. Just moments later, though, she was back up onstage with a replacement headset piece and carried on with her kinetic show.
Aside from the excitement of Lady Gaga’s fireworks-laced and heart-stirring set, the festival has been packed with eye-popping performances. Artists such as Missy Elliott, Charli xcx, Megan Thee Stallion, BLACKPINK’s Lisa and Jennie, Ed Sheeran, FKA twigs, T-Pain, and Weezer have each brought their unique flair to the festival.
Gaga then endeared herself to her fans even more during her set by declaring that she was going to give them the most memorable show of their lives.
“I guess all we can do is our best, and I’m certainly giving you my best tonight,” – Lady Gaga
The festival remains a beacon to music lovers everywhere, paying homage to a wide variety of genres and performances. Lady Gaga’s triumphant return not only highlights her resilience as an artist but sets a high bar for the remaining acts at this year’s Coachella.
