Lizzo Makes a Vibrant Return to Saturday Night Live with New Music and Humor

Lizzo made her highly anticipated return to Saturday Night Live (SNL) as the musical guest on October 14, 2023. This official debut will be her third time gracing the legendary Studio 8H stage, having wowed audiences on two previous appearances as a musical guest. On her most recent appearance, she dazzled the audience as she did in London, performing a medley of her new singles. “Love in Real Life” and “Still Bad” have both enthralled readers since debuting earlier this year.

Lizzo delightfully took social media by storm in February 2023 when she released the single “Love in Real Life.” She released “Still Bad” in March to build anticipation. Accompanying each jam are horror-inspired music videos, artfully crafted by Colin Tilley. These amazing visuals paired with the body positive, self-love anthems found on almost every single track help to establish Lizzo’s reign atop the music industry even more.

In the middle of her set, Lizzo showed off her musical chops and versatility, pulling an electric guitar out midway through her song “Love in Real Life.” This selection was an indication of her future casting as Sister Rosetta Tharpe in an upcoming biopic. Lizzo’s ability to blend music and performance art was evident as she parodied Natasha Rothwell’s character, Belinda Lindsey, from “The White Lotus” in one of the sketches.

Lizzo wowed them all with her incredible musicianship. She flexed her comedic chops in a pre-taped sketch, introducing the new baby of a gay couple of ambiguous origin. Her unique combination of comedy and songwriting breaks new ground whenever she creates or performs music, as her recent SNL appearances demonstrate. In 2022, she proved that talent again as the host and the musical guest.

Lizzo’s most recent studio album, Special, dropped last year in 2022 and is still making major waves with fans. Beyond her critical and commercial success, her recent performances on SNL remind the world not only of her artistry but of her journey as an artist. Through the course of this episode, she premiered an unreleased power ballad called “Don’t Make Me Love You.” It’s the undeniable 80s sheen that’s truly bringing out the best in her oeuvre.
