Electronic Arts (EA) announced that Madden 26 will launch on August 14, marking a significant evolution in the long-running football video game series. This new installment releases on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, it will be releasing on the brand new Nintendo Switch 2! Madden 26 will not be available on last-generation consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This reverses a decade-long trend, as the franchise has been accessible on these platforms since 2013.
It’s notable that EA has chosen to pass on the PS4 and Xbox One entirely. This decision comes after Madden 25, the last game in the franchise that was available on those consoles. EA’s another large studio looking to provide improved gameplay experiences under the hood by making the leap to next-gen hardware. This transition will enable more detailed graphics and higher processing capabilities. Madden 26 represents the franchise’s return to Nintendo platforms for the first time since Madden NFL 13 in 2012.
Alongside the upcoming game, EA has announced two premium editions for Madden 26. The largest “Deluxe Edition” version, sold at $100, gives players three-day early access and other in-game extras. The “MVP Bundle,” which includes all of these courses, costs just $150. Features the Deluxe Edition of Madden 26 and Deluxe Edition of College Football 26, which hits a week early on July 10.
The news follows the breakout success of EA College Football 25. It’s no surprise really, considering how it went on to become last year’s overall best-selling game in the United States. Further creating this momentum is the potential to build more excitement and hype for College Football 26 as well as Madden 26 with fans and gamers alike.
