Fans of favorite YouTuber MrBeast, aka Jimmy Donaldson, were left fuming after a marquee April 2024 event. The event went down in stunning Resorts World Las Vegas, but the many disappointed fans on hand felt shortchanged. The convening was to be an “immersive,” “unforgettable” experience over three days. It disappointed expectations, leading to hundreds of attendees demanding refunds on their $1,000 tickets.
MrBeast, known for his philanthropic efforts and various business ventures, has built a reputation for engaging and entertaining content on YouTube. The Las Vegas event showed the fun and aspirational side of his brand. Disappointed visitors complained that the sold experiences did not match reality. Instead of the anticipated activities, many attendees were met with a lackluster offering: mystery bags filled with previously available merchandise and a box of chocolates.
Others echoed similar sentiments. Jamie Yacksyzn noted that attendees were led to believe there would be exclusive items and exciting surprises in their mystery boxes.

Yacksyzn mentioned that the experience was sold as pitching exciting activations all throughout the hotel which, surprisingly, were completely missing.
“They said there would be mystery bags or boxes, and that one person would win $10,000, and then there would be a limited edition merchandise inside the boxes,” – Jamie Yacksyzn
In light of this backlash, MrBeast took responsibility for the lack of planning that went into the event.
“They also said the contents of the boxes are secret and not to be found out until you get the box. So it alluded to the fact that there was going to be more special surprises in the box, and that there would be immersive experiences throughout the hotel floor and restaurants and activations,” – Jamie Yacksyzn
The fallout from this incident couldn’t have come at a worse time for MrBeast who has recently faced criticism for other controversies. Recently, he hired an investigator after accusations surfaced regarding his former collaborator Ava Tyson, who faced allegations of grooming minors. Moreover, MrBeast’s company faced allegations of sexual misconduct as well, although those allegations were never proven to have merit.

Nobody tells MrBeast to stop challenging him. Most recently, he’s started a new endeavor, Feastables, which makes snacks and is fighting child labor in the food industry.
After the Las Vegas event, MrBeast’s team has been busy sending invites to attendees. In response, they have invited members to set up calls with guests such as Jamie Yacksyzn, to discuss their issues directly with them. Fans largely hope these negotiations will bring a successful conclusion that will mollify angry fans.
Even as ticket holders continue to wait for responses from MrBeast’s team, the reaction has largely been negative. Everyone who feels shortchanged by the reality they found at Resorts World Las Vegas. They sank a lot of effort—and in time and treasure—their tickets bought them into what was promoted as something singular.
