Potato “Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan has been in the news a lot these days. She’s previously raised almost £100,000—around $132,655—for the trans community. On 18 April, Coughlan popped the champagne on her Instagram Story to celebrate a big milestone. She did so by speaking out against transphobia and with respect to the UK Supreme Court’s recently announced ruling, which has been widely condemned.
Coughlan also recently launched a fundraising campaign with the intention of sending hundreds of dollars toward Not A Phase. This foundation is committed to serving trans adults throughout the U.K. Originally, she aimed for £10,000 ($13,265), putting her money where her mouth was by promising to match all donations up to that level. But her campaign took off fast, resulting in an astounding $18 million haul that blew past her wildest dreams.
In her Instagram Story, Coughlan said she was “so freaking appalled” by the Supreme Court’s ruling. She argues that this decision undermines the best interests of trans people. She bravely took advantage of that platform to express her dissent, saying, “F
