Fans of the much-loved “One Tree Hill” are celebrating as news breaks about a reboot. Netflix, which produced these two seasons of the revival, produced them in close collaboration with The CW, which originally launched the series more than two decades ago. Peyton Sawyer actress Hilarie Burton Morgan is at the forefront of this discussion, and she’s anchoring the talk about this upcoming iteration. She revealed the latest on the project on her visit to the Drama Queens podcast.
And now, together with star Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton Morgan formally announced the reboot last week. Their enthusiasm made the perfect atmosphere for a curtain-raising comeback. The pair are overjoyed to be returning to their characters for the upcoming series. They’ll take on the role of executive producers, forming a partnership with former co-star Danneel Ackles.
At an exclusive industry gathering in July, Burton Morgan reflected on lessons learned during the reboot. AMC Networks 2025 Upfront & Content Showcase, held on April 9. “There’s lots of good things cooking right now, and it’s really smart, caring people working on it. And that’s just a really fun thing to be involved in,” she said while discussing the project with PEOPLE.
Though specifics are still a closely guarded secret, Burton Morgan’s excitement is clear. She cheekily teased her husband, fellow actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s possible participation in the venture. He had previously auditioned for the role of Keith Scott, a local mechanic and the guardian to two of Peyton’s romantic interests. However, given his history with the show, he won’t be present on the new adaptation.
Burton Morgan quipped about her husband’s audition. She quipped, “Had [Jeff] shown up in those ass huggers that [Craig Sheffer] was wearing… I would’ve had babies by then,” summing up the magic and good times with the original cast.
This revival has the same kind of excitement among the actors and fans. Yet they enthusiastically unite each year to celebrate what is arguably their hometown’s most notable legacy — “One Tree Hill.” Burton Morgan and Bush expressed their commitment to creating something special in their joint statement: “If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? Sign us up.”
As excitement builds around this reboot, fans eagerly await more information about the characters and direction of the new series.
